Decluttering

Since much of my week is in front of a computer, I try to make it a practice to go completely screen-free one day a week. This summer, I upped the ante with a full two weeks away from digital devices. It was harder than I thought – my thumb twitched, and one time I completely broke down and spent an hour on email. But the two weeks away ended up being sublime: surfing actual waves on the West Coast instead of digital ones; teaching my daughter to ride her bike instead of riding off to the next meeting; lingering with friends instead of lingering over my inbox. I highly recommend building digital-free zones into your working week and year – it masterfully declutters the soul.
